Low cholesterol and increased cancer in men and women

This study investigated the relationship between cholesterol levels and the incidence of cancer. The study included 3,102 individuals who were followed for up to 14 years.

The study found:
(a) Those with lower cholesterol levels had significantly increased rates of cancer compared to those with higher cholesterol levels. This association was more pronounced in men.
(b) The association of increased cancer incidence with low cholesterol levels was quite consistent for the various cancer sites and cell types.
