This study investigated the association of cholesterol levels with death rates. The study included 7,961 men, aged 46-65 years, who were followed for nine years.
 
The study found men who had lower cholesterol levels of less than 180 mg/dL (4.6 mmol/L) had a 44% increased risk of death compared to men with higher cholesterol levels of 240-269 mg/dL (6.2-7.0 mmol/L).
