This study investigated the relationship between cholesterol levels, death rates and causes of death over 17 years in 630 New Zealand Maoris aged 25-74.

This study revealed:
(a) Lower cholesterol levels are likely to lead to an earlier death, especially for women.
(b) Lower cholesterol levels are significantly associated with cancer deaths for men and women.
